500 sf of FUN!

I’ve got to say, it’s pretty hard for me to “let go” of control when we’re talking about a RRR project! When our number one girl Mallory was looking for a new apartment we just happened to have a rental space we were about to start renovating! This little gem was perfect to fit her needs. Shreveport neighborhoods like Highland and South Highlands are filled with charming little apartments—perfect for single girls on the go!
-Angie

Location: Shreveport, LA
Square Feet: 500ish
Division: Teeny-Tiny

What I love About My Small Home: When I decided I was leaving my old apartment, RRR had just decided to renovate a rental space they had---it was FATE! My tiny little home started out as a complete MESS! We all referred to it “the black hole” for the longest! A lot of clean up, a lot of paint, and Sean and Angie letting me have free reign on the place, and it all finally came together!500 sf total, the apartment is mainly made up of two rooms, and a tiny bathroom! It’s cozy, yet just big enough for me and the kids (Kitty and Fancy)!

My Style: Eclectic, if I have to use one word. I like quirky, nostalgic, humorous décor---Anything that makes me feel at home and happy!

Inspiration: Since I got some hands on participation in a lot of the renovating in my apartment (i.e., painting, painting and MORE painting) had a lot of time to think about what the space would look and feel like once I was done. I didn’t have a lot of choices when it came to layout because it’s SO small. I had X number of inches to work with and I started looking for a couch that fit into that and worked from there.

Favorite Element: I LOVE MY BATHROOM!! With a very small space and challenges with the plumbing fixtures, I didn’t know how the bathroom would turn out, but it was actually one of the first things that fell together!

Biggest Challenge: Downsizing! I didn’t realize how much stuff one person could accumulate over 5 years in a 1500 sf apartment! I had to do a LOT of purging---and I could stand to do a little more! #packrat

What Friends Say: “It’s so YOU!” All of my (married) friends are a little envious of my hidden little escape. It’s right in the center of town, within walking distance to so much, but no one knows its here! I’ve had several people offer to pet-sit if they could just stay as a getaway for the weekend!

Biggest Embarrassment: The walkway to my apartment isn’t ideal, but it’s definitely not an embarrassment. Once I’m done, I know I’ll love it!  Rome wasn’t built in a day…and this chick doesn’t like to do yardwork in the rain!

Proudest DIY: My TV stand is one of the only DIY’s I did at this apartment! I found it in the building when we started demo! I saved it knowing it was the perfect narrow piece to have as a TV stand near my front door! Other than that, the lamp in my living room Angie and I found at a store that was going out of business and had it on the curb for FREE---$15 lamp shade, and its one of my favorite things!

Biggest Indulgence: I’m the cheapest person ever, so NOTHING in my apartment is crazy expensive. My biggest indulgence (for what it is) I guess would be my rug! It wasn’t at all what I had originally thought I wanted, but it was perfect for me!

Best Advice: Whatever your style, wherever you live, no matter WHAT your budget is, just make your home somewhere that makes you happy!

….And a Happy New Year!

Christmas (and my birthday—woo!) have come and gone and 2016 is officially here! Before we dive off into all things '16, I want to show off a few things Santa brought to help make my new year great (and quite aesthetically pleasing, at that!)

1. NERD ALERT. Books. Not just any books, WORK books! Gross, right? Not at all. Since transitioning from the “magical world of weddings” to the glamorous life of a design assistant, I have new work crushes and the yearning to learn as much as I can! So, here’s to hoping this reading material will satisfy both!
(See the original “20 Facts about Mallory” post if you’re confused!)

2. Sweet Boyfriend—Coordinates from the first time we hung out. (Insert *Awwwwwww*)
And in rose gold, because,…obviously.

3. I know you’re thinking, “Is this record player that you have been oogling over at Vessel Vintage for months?” Why yes, it is! Boyfriend refinished and rewired it and it’s going to go perfectly as a dual record player/end table in my new apartment! Can’t you just hear the needle dropping from here? Ahhhhh, #midcenturyperfection

4. My Fancy little ring.
Remember how I’m obsessed with my dog? (Again, see original “Mallory” post) Well now I can proudly sport my owner status to the little diva all the time! Plus, I have man hands, so I love dainty rings that can add any sprinkle of femininity!

5. Mint Clock! This retro little thing I didn’t even know I needed until I had it! My friend Lindsi knows me too well!

6. Last but definitely not least, home bar accessories!
I’m leaving off pictures on this one because I want to save my bar cart for its own separate post, but trust me, if you’re into mixed metallics, bright colors, bold graphics and/or champagne, you’re going to love it!

South Highlands Kitchen Remodel

Native to Shreveport, this young couple and their two daughters have lived out of state for school and work for several years and have finally moved home! They bought a house in Shreveport’s historic South Highlands Neighborhood knowing their home would need some updating---That’s where we come in.
Energetic, excited, eager….and in LOVE with Chip and Jojo! We set out to make this South Highlands home look like something right out of Waco and right off of HGTV’s “Fixer Uppers!”

Subway tile, shiplap and brick pavers, OH MY! We ripped out walls, patched up doors, polished up old, and installed new. Together with the homeowners we rearranged a few things for a more practical flow and topped things off with a few local touches!

Here are a few before and afters:

Hard work and great homeowners made this project successful! I think Chip and Jojo would be proud! We LOVE the way it turned out!

The two that rule the roost around the house look like they're enjoying themselves!
Mission accomplished!

A huge "THANK YOU" to the guys at River Cities Flooring and all of our other subs who helped make this project possible!
