Subway Tile Party!

Yes, you read that title correctly! We are throwing a subway tile party during today's blog and you are all invited. Subway tile may seem plain just sitting in a box on shelf in Lowe's, but we know better. We are going to share with you several Red River Remodelers projects in which we used the Subway in a variety of ways.

First off, we have a kitchen back splash in the South Highlands area of Shreveport where we mixed in a little glass to zazz it up. I think it worked out pretty well! Look at how adorable and spunky this space is!  Great way to introduce color but not be overwhelmed by it.

In this project Red River Remodelers used a glass accent tile band that really helps to create movement and energy across the kitchen. This can also work well to make a smaller kitchen seem larger. It's all... an illusion!

In this kitchen, and coincidentally the one above, we put in a travertine subway tile that has more texture to it than your typical porcelain or ceramic subway tile. We are definitely still in love with this galley style layout!

I know some of you have seen this bad boy on the Parade of Homes a couple weeks ago! Here we brought things to the next level used a beveled edge subway.

In this little kitchen we have your typical white porcelain subway, but we used a darker grout to really make things pop! Dark grout and dark cabinets? Yes ma'am!

Same white subway tile just with white grout! White cabinets, dark counter tops, sleek and clean white subway back splash. I could throw a party in this kitchen!

Don't forget to check out our Houzz! Add our projects to your idea books! You don't have a Houzz.com account?! What're you waiting for?! It's always a design party over there!

You Light Up My... Work Space

Are you ready for some rad task lighting options? I hope so, because this week's blog is home to a few of my favorite items from a few of my favorite stores. And who says task lighting needs to be lame and fluorescent, anyway? Zazz up that office!

First up we have the Princeton Junior wall sconce from School House Electric! Check out this adjustable bad boy. Mount him right above your work space for an old school feel and function. At $169, he comes in three finishes: antique black (shown), natural brass and matte bronze. Call up your favorite electrician and have a party!

Next up we've got the retro-inspired Atomic Yellow table lamp from my good friends at CB2. This dude has some movement, much like all 1950s inspired designs. He has a certain swing and swoop that I dig. This is his only form and costs $129. If I had a work space of my own, I would have this puppy in two seconds.

Ohh, now we tread into even more familiar waters! Restoration Hardware is in the house! The McCroskey Swing Arm table lamp caught my eye as I was browsing their lighting. The exposed wires and rich color make me want to put this into a masculine space. It's industrial, early 1900s inspired, comes in a beautiful antique brass, and weighs a solid 22lbs. He could be yours for $339!

Oh, boy. Here we have the Arne Jacobsen (designer of the Egg Chair) AJ table lamp from Design Within Reach. Sometimes, it is important to have that something extra special. This lamp comes in eight different colors and runs a cool $1,018. A small price to pay for this piece of 1960's design!

Well. There you have it folks. I've shared with you a few of my deepest lighting loves. Stay tuned for another blog later on. Maybe I'll share some projects we are finishing up. Or more lamps. I also take requests.

Houzz Feature!

We aren't the only ones that thought this sassy pink chaise was a good idea. Houzz chose Angie's project for their feature blog on decorating with antiques! Check out the article here!

It's official. Red River Remodelers has been featured on Houzz and we are very excited about it!

Small Shreveport Kitchen Remodel - Complete!

We gave y'all a sneak peek a few blogs ago, but now we've got the finished product! Here is a little before action in our little Shreveport, LA kitchen:

BEFORE:

Now for the newly renovated space! Pretty awesome transformation, right?! We've got soapstone on the counter tops, Daltile Yacht Club in Sea Anchor on the floor, Interceramic Subway tile in Bright White on the back splash, and custom cabinets courtesy of Unlimited Cabinets in Longview, TX.

AFTER:

The cabinet hardware is the European style pull in a satin nickel finish.

We put in a Reinhard single bowl fireclay sink in white, with a Portnoy spring sprout faucet in brushed nickel. Check out the soapstone window sill!

The subway back splash is great for this little kitchen.

The walls have a coat of a custom grey, Kendall Charcoal by Benjamin Moore on the lower cabinets, and white on the upper cabinets.

Our lighting comes from Quorum, Destination Lighting, and Elite Fixtures.

The french doors got some love via new coat of paint!

We are super happy about how this adorable two toned kitchen turned out!

Shreveport Hall Bath Remodel - University

We have recently finished up a typical hallway bathroom in the University Terrace neighborhood of Shreveport, LA. Our homeowners chose a lovely Caledonia granite counter top from Barrett's Stone Gallery here in town, from there we selected tile and paint colors to pull it all together. The faucet is from Delta and we talked the owners into an updated retangular shaped under mount porcelain sink. Check out those painted cabinets! It's just enough to make this vanity feel current. The walls are Benjamin Moore Wickham Gray and the cabinet is Benjamin Moore Sabre Gray.

A wall was torn down, making this space feel twice as large. We threw down some porcelain tile on the shower walls and the floor, replaced the tub and bam. Done!

We are pretty happy with the way it turned out! I think the 6" x 24" rectangular floor tile is my favorite part. Love a linear look floor!

Minden, Louisiana Remodel

While Red River Remodelers has its home base in Shreveport, Louisiana, we will occasionally travel a bit for a project. This time work brought us to the lovely historic town of Minden! We changed up quite a bit with this one, demolishing the old kitchen, windows, doors, wood paneling and faux beams.

Here are a few before photos:

Check these after photos, courtesy of Alec Mccommon!

The galley style kitchen just so happens to be Ms. Angie's favorite style of kitchen. It's one of the more functional and user friendly designs. We put in CorkComfort planks in Flock Brunette. The counter tops are Cambria in Sussex from Barrett's Stone Gallery in Shreveport, LA. We have a Distinctive Series cook top from Dacor. We paired a sink from our friends at Elkay with a Delta Orleans faucet in Brilliant Stainless. Even threw in some custom Shiloh cabinet work from our buddies at WW Wood Products.

This walk through pantry is wonderful. So much space for snacks!

The living room got some love, too. Check that fireplace!

The home owners wanted to zazz up the exterior as well. So great.

Viking: Spicing Up Appliances Since 1980

Who knew some of my absolute favorite appliances were manufactured a state away?! Viking was born in Greenwood, Mississippi and is still there today. Fred Carl started his company to provide commercial cooking power to residential kitchens and we are pretty excited he did so. Not only does Viking provide an enormous variety of products, they also cater to the designer in us all.

Priced at around $8,299, these puppies are well worth it.  This 36" 7 Series Gas Range comes in a variety of colors (Colbalt Blue and Burgundy shown) and is stacked with features including: Viking Elevation Burners, Digital Meat Thermometer, Reversible Grill/Griddle, SoftLit LED Lights, Gourmet-Glo Infrared Broiler (what!!!), VariSimmer Setting, and SureSpark Ignition System.

They don't stop there. Let's look at a refrigerator real quickly. Give me a minute here. I'm going to have to let this soak in. This 42" Side-by-Side Refrigerator/Freezer with Dispenser in Wasabi is a master work. It is as if the designers at Viking can see inside my 1970s heart. Coming in at around $11,799, I would say, "Yes! Throw me that fridge!"
Are you still not convinced? Here. They even carry this swanky
27" Warming Drawer in colors like cinnamon and dijon at $1,799. How can we not be in love?
There are a few other companies that have similar products, which I will probably go over in a future blog, but Viking is right next door! We are all about supporting our local companies.
